This year’s multiage Family Adventure Bible School—Destination the Great Outdoors was a combination of the old and the new. We decided to try something a little different, and invited everyone, from infant to adult, to join students from preschool through 5th grade for three activity-packed evenings: June 20, 21, and 22, 2017. We again used Menno Media curriculum, with the theme “Digging for Treasure, Parables Revealed.” Everyone gathered at the church pavilion for singing, the Bible story and drama. Then, with Eric Haglund and Willis Beitzel as leaders and guides, the group walked to the Alta Schrock Nature Trail on the Springs Folk Festival grounds for a scavenger hunt that reinforced the night’s parable. The Scavenger Hunt ended at a Treasure Chest from which each student received a parable-related take-home “treasure.” After returning to the pavilion area, everyone ended the evening with Active Response activities, a snack, singing, more learning, and wrap-up.
Our offering of $252.67 supported Mennonite Mission Network’s project in Bolivia, Sirviendo A Cristo (Serving Christ), a training program for young adults that teaches people about God and how to share His love. Also, the offering will enable children to have Sunday school materials, or to attend Vacation Bible School.
We were blessed with good weather. This year was a learning experience, and we thank everyone who went on the adventure with us. We are also very thankful for the financial and prayer support we received from the congregation. Twenty-eight people, including children under age 4 and non-staff adults, attended. May Bi-ble School continue to be an integral part of our mission and a blessing to all who attend.
